MHE628 Deliverables

MHE628 Designing & Teaching Online Courses

  • Learning Style Preference Analysis
For this assignment you will be asked to complete an online (non-scientific) assessment that determines you preferred learning style. You will write a brief paper (3-5 pages) reflecting upon the results of the assessment and explaining the benefits of understanding one’s own learning style preference as well as the benefits of instructors preparing course activities and assessments designed for students with varied learning style preferences.
  • Instructional Design Model Wiki Activity
There are many different instructional design models that can be used when creating a course. For this collaborative activity, each member of the class (or group) will be assigned to research an assigned instructional design model and will contribute their findings to a class wiki to share information with others in the class. The following week after this research is completed, you will view the completed wiki to learn about other instructional design models and will discuss these models in an online discussion.
  • Final Project
The final project for this course will be completed in parts throughout the course. You will be designing a module for an online course on a topic of your choice. Different pieces of the project, such as designing an assessment and writing learning outcomes, will be due throughout the course and will fall under the “Final Project – online course module components” portion of your grade. You will be expected to incorporate instructor feedback to improve your course components and assemble them into a final online course module at the end of the course.

To do this, you will need access to a course site in a learning management system. If you work at an institution    that uses an LMS, you may be able to get a course site created in that system.

During the final week of the course, we will hold live online sessions in which you will present your final course    module and demonstrate your knowledge of effective course design strategies by explaining the rationale behind  the decisions you made in designing your module. I will make every effort to find a time to schedule the  presentations that will work for everyone so all of us can be present during the same time for the presentations.  Please see the Final Presentation Scheduling item in the Introduction module to provide your scheduling  availability during Week 8. I will try to get the presentation scheduled before the end of Week 8 so we can all plan  ahead.

What people are saying…

I just want to acknowledge the good help I've been getting from Mary in "refreshing" my NMP 605 Financial Decision-Making in Nonprofits Course.  She has helped me put new video/voice/and analytical tools into the course to facilitate the on-line discussions and the sharing of course content.  No longer are we wedded to the typed word for communicating.

Thank you Mary. You were so helpful yesterday and I really appreciate your time. As you can see, I put a lot of forethought into my classes and try to develop a wide array of assessments and activities for the students. The flip side of that is it takes quite a bit of pre-planning and work up front for me, which I am happy to do, but sometimes I challenge myself to do new things and having the support is very helpful.
