Communication

FaceTime with Beijing

November 17, 2012 by izzy

If someone had told me 18 years ago I’d be holding a small video camera and communicating ‘live’ with my daughter…I probably would have said, ‘Shut up!’ Then if that person told me I’d be talking ‘in real-time’ while my daughter was in Beijing, on her round-the-globe-adventure…I believe I would lean in and ask that person to tell me more.

Enter FaceTime and how Xernay and I have been communicating lately.  From California, to Honolulu, to Narita and now Beijing and I have to say [despite the time differences] it works pretty good.

Logistically, where ever Xernay can get Wifi, we have been able to get a FaceTime connection. Strangely, when she calls up, it notes that it is coming via her gmail account.  Yet, she’s still having difficulties accessing her gmail email account.  One word: firewalls.  We are working on this too.

Customizing a Facebook Page

January 26, 2012 by izzy

I assisted a client to create a customized FaceBook image for her business page. Val Nelson is a career and business coach who makes it easy for her clients to find clarity and confidence so they can follow their hearts…and make a living.

Customizing your FaceBook page visually: attracts the readers’ eyes to your page,
it helps the reader relate to you on a personal level, and it should assist with boosting the Google search engine optimization for Val’s overall online presence.

Of course, having a beautiful image to work with really helps.  I was able to use the color element to work into the customized treatment of Val’s FaceBook page and further support her overall branding design.

What do you think of Val’s new FaceBook page? I would love to hear your comments.

Now here’s a tool that any educator would be happy using. Diigo, is a cloud based personal information management tool that allows you to collect and access a variety of digital information. You install Diigo and then go about using the bookmarking, highlighting, and sticky notes. Capture, annotate, and share your notes all inside a cloud.

You can access your information on the go. Try the free plan first and also check out the Educator’s upgrades.

Why Inforgraphics Matter

October 11, 2011 by izzy

The Value of Data Visualization makes a compelling case for how infographics exploit visual clues like color, size, and graphic orientation to help us understand complex stories. Naturally, they use infographics to do it. Think about visual clues when creating instructional design.
