New Digs: Before and After

October 24, 2011 by izzy

While Spring cleaning is usually left to the earlier months of the year, I decided to take on a clean-up project of my own and re-design my own website. I wanted something more dynamite and decided upon the WordPress theme; Canvas.  Hers’ what my website looked like before.

MWDesign Website- Before

I built the website in a “test site” and when I was happy with it, I moved it all over to my live site. I am liking the sliding images; representing samples of work I have done, along with the open, clean feel of the new site and the new “light bulb” logo design.

The footers hold video samples and within the site I designed widgets to hold samples of other work I have done.

MWDesign Website- After

Inside, I have loads of samples showing my instructional design work. Have a peek around.

Cloth Book of the Month

October 20, 2011 by izzy

Now here’s a real twist and spin to a Book of the Month Club. Victoria van derLaan is looking for money to fund her start-up project via KickStarter. She creates a book of the month project and folks will be able to purchase books individually or subscribe for 3, 6, 9, or 12 months. Brilliant!

Victoria creates an original book in each of 6 designs, scans each page to create a digital file to be printed by Spoonflower on 100% organic cotton sateen fabric and creates cloth books from this fabric. What a wonderful gift this would be…

Have a peek at the video.

Goodbye Visionary

October 6, 2011 by izzy

We need more of what Steve had. He saw something that was simply better than what had preceded it, and he was willing to gamble based on that instinct. That required an ability to think first and foremost as someone who lives with technology rather than produces it.

Steve Jobs

Jobs is perhaps the greatest user of technology to every live. He was able to think first and foremost as someone who lives with technology rather than produces it.

Designing Online Learning

October 3, 2011 by izzy

When I am designing an online course, I use lots of check lists and charts to help guide me. Then,  when reading an articles on Three Keys That Make Good Interaction Design Great, these words stood out to me:

  • Optimizing: Making daily activities more efficient
  • Engaging: Capturing attention, creating delight and delivering meaning
  • Empowering: Enabling people to go beyond their limits
  • Expressing: Encouraging self expression and/or creativity
  • Connecting: Facilitating communication between people and communities
  • Disrupting: Re-imagining completely an existing product or service by creating new behaviors, usages or markets.

Hello, this list can be used to double check an online course.  Are these being represented in the course I’m designing? Why can’t a check list, like this one, be used to help create some dynamic online design?  I say “Yes it can!”
